He’s an artist with simple lines. He’s an artist with complex lines. There’s abstraction. There’s characterization. But above all, there is the undying fine line between street art and fine art. EYESORE is unexpected stylistically. However, there is one main image that comes to mind when EYESORE is the topic of conversation or thought: an ugly character. There are many different variations of EYESORE’s “ugly character.” Each character, and each piece for that matter, emits an emotion only detectable by those familiar with pain, ugliness, and passion. EYESORE’s work is even suggestively a look into the beautiful side of ugly. Be that correct or not, the feelings/messages taken from a piece of art are ultimately up to the viewer. Take what you will from EYESORE, but leave all close-minded thoughts behind. Thanks to EYESORE for the following interview.1. How long have you been doing graffiti art?
I have been getting up in the street since 2000.
2. Are you formally trained in art or self-taught?
Self-taught. I’ve been drawing since I was a little kid. Taught myself how to silkscreen and mastered the copy machine early on.
3. Why did you choose the name ‘EYESORE‘?
It’s in the eye of the beholder. Beaming billboards and advertisements trying to sell you things OR a mode of expression with an absolute value independent of any human view.
4. What do the characters in your art represent?
Ugliness: the quality or state of being ugly :)
5. What message are you trying to get across with your art?
The medium is the message.
6. What upcoming shows, if any, might you have in the near future?
MyCoffinHands 60pg zine drops March 30th!
